How To Be Born Again

Are You Born Again? Jesus once told a religious leader, “Except a man be born again, he can not see the kingdom of God”.

You can do a lot of good and even religious things in your life. You can be baptized and attend church regularly. You can tithe and pray and live a moral life. You can give your money to the poor and help the needy. You can meditate and think good thoughts. But, none of these things will get you to that real literal place called heaven. Jesus said, if you want to go to heaven, you must be born again.

Why Must A Person Be Born Again? A man must be born again because of the difference between his nature and the nature of God. The Bible teaches that God is altogether “Holy”. He is righteous, sinless and perfect. “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord”.

The Bible says you and I are just the opposite of God. We are sinners! We have broken God’s laws and we have broken God’s heart. We have rebelled against the God who created us.

And, before sinful creatures such as you and I can go to a perfect place called heaven, and stand in the presence of a Holy and Perfect God, a change must take place. That change is called being Born Again.

And nobody goes to heaven who has not been born again.

What Is The New Birth?

The New Birth Is A Supernatural Change That Comes From God. The Bible says, “Salvation is of the Lord”. You can’t make this change yourself. You can’t work this miracle in your own life. You can clean up things on the outside, but God must do a work on the inside. The New Birth is a supernatural change that God does in the heart and life of those who trust Him.

The New Birth Is A Mysterious Change. (John 3:8) “The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whiter it goeth; so is everyone that is born of the spirit”. Do you understand the wind? Can you see the wind? Being born again is a mysterious and supernatural thing that God does in a believers life. You may not be able to explain it, but you know when it has happened. Your life is changed forever.

The New Birth Is An Absolute Change. (2 Corinthians 5:17) “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold ALL things are become new”. When a man is born again, his life is changed. Christ comes to live in your heart. Salvation changes a person. The Holy Spirit of God indwells you and begins to direct your life. Being born again is a change from God; it is mysterious, and it is absolute.

My Testimony: I was born again on Thursday night, October 24, 1983. I was 36 years old and was radically changed by the power of God. I have never been the same since that night.

How To Be Born Again

1. You Must Hear The Gospel

Romans 10:17 “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.”

Romans 1:16 “The gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation.”

Romans 10:14 “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?”

2. You Must Experience Godly Sorrow For Sin

2 Corinthians 7:10 “Godly sorrow worketh repentance unto salvation, not to be repented of…”

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

3. You Must Repent

Luke 13:3 “Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”

Acts 20:21 “Repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Mark 1:15 “And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

4. You Must Trust Jesus Christ As Your Savior

John 3:36 “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life.”

John 5: 5:24 “He that hearth my word and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life…”

Acts 16:31 “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.”
